COVENTRY- Coventry High School’s band director, Ned Smith, was recently accepted as a member of both the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) and the Phi Beta Mu International Band Masters Fraternity. Smith was nominated and sponsored by peers who are current members of the ASBDA and PBM. Potential members must demonstrate a high level of experience, excellent moral character, and quality of musicianship. After being nominated, the selection process includes written recommendations from fellow Band Directors and the submission of performances of Coventry High School’s ensembles. Smith has been a member of Coventry High School’s staff since 2007. In addition to his duties as band director and drama club assistant at Coventry High School, he has served as State Adjudication Chair for the Connecticut Music Educators Association and is currently the Chairperson of the Student Affairs Commission of CMEA.
