Pre-engineering enrichment program
Region - posted Sep, 25 2013
REGION - Every year the University of Connecticut School of Engineering hosts a 12-week pre-engineering program for seventh, eighth and ninth-graders. Pre-engineering is an enrichment program for students that includes hands-on math and science exploratory activities aimed at increasing interest in careers involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The pre-engineering program engages students in challenging, exciting hands-on problem solving activities facilitated by engineering undergraduate student mentors. Through this interaction, the middle and high school students foster the ability to improve or enhance their level of understanding of mathematics and science and the relation of these concepts to the future study of engineering. Free bus transportation to and from the UConn is provided from the East Hartford Middle School and Carmen Arace Middle School. The program runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 12, Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 2, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16. The cost to participate in the program is $80 for the year or $50 for the fall or spring session.
