ELLINGTON - On Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m., historian Patrick Smith presents, A Pop History of Connecticut. Once there were nearly 40 independent soft drink businesses in Connecticut; today just four survive. Smith will look at the boom and bust of soda making in Connecticut from its rise during the days of prohibition, to the takeover of the Big Two, and the present revival of locally made sodas. Samples from Connecticut soda makers will be available. Learn about PT boats on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., at the monthly meeting of the Ellington Historical Society. Naval historian Tim Connelly will discuss different types of PT boats, their armament, radar and camouflage and will give an overall view of how they were used in combat. Both the speaker and the meeting are open to the public; all are welcome to attend. Pre-registration is required.
