WILLIMANTIC - EASTCONN’s ACT, a public, performing-arts magnet high school, will hold an open house for prospective students for the 2014-2015 academic year on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in EASTCONN’s Capitol Theater, 896 Main St., Willimantic. The evening program and presentations, which begin promptly at 6:30 p.m., will include ACT student performances; a Q & A panel discussion with ACT staff, students and parents; and a display of student work, representing each of ACT’s arts majors in acting, audio/video, creative writing and dance. ACT, which stands for Arts at the Capitol Theater, offers students in grades nine through 12, a full-day high school program that focuses on both a rigorous core academic curriculum and different arts disciplines, taught by some of the area’s finest arts professionals. The school currently enrolls 140 students from 25 northeastern Connecticut towns. The art deco-design Capitol Theater includes two fully equipped theaters, a black box theater, a set shop, audio/video editing suites, classrooms, dance studios, a costume shop, office space, CAD (computer-aided drafting) lab, a café and an art gallery. Art deco-style interiors are featured throughout the facility, which is located in busy, downtown Willimantic across from the public library and post office. Free parking is available on Main Street and in a public lot adjacent to the theater on Walnut Street.
