KILLINGLY- On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Killingly Historical and Genealogical Society will be hosting a program on the Slater Mill of Pawtucket, R.I. The presentation will be given by Dr. Scott Molloy, a professor at the University of Rhode Island. He is a professor of Labor History, author, and a speaker sought after throughout the United States. The presentation will cover the mill, its workers, and industrial practices of the times. Slater Mill was the first water powered cotton spinning mill in North America and its operations became the template that all other textile mills of the 19th century followed by one degree or another, including those in Killingly and other nearby Connecticut towns. The program will be held at the Killingly Historical Center, 196 Main St,, Danielson and will begin at 1:30 p.m. There will be a membership meeting at 1p.m. and refreshments will be served.
