Special speaker at luncheon
Manchester - posted Nov, 15 2013
MANCHESTER- Vic Zwolak, a former Olympic runner and winner of the 1963 Manchester Road Race, will address the annual "Dr. Charlie Robbins Club" luncheon on Dec. 4 at noon at Arbors of Hop Brook Retirement Community, 403 West Center St., Manchester. The "Dr. Charlie Robbins Club" is a yearly gathering of all runners 75 years of age or older who compete in the Manchester Road Race on Thanksgiving Day. The event is named for the late Dr. Charlie Robbins, a Manchester native who won the event twice and competed in the road race 56 times before his retirement in 2001 at the age of 81. He often ran the Manchester course barefoot. A native of Delaware, Zwolak later became a highly successful masters' competitor, and won many long-distance races, and set a number of age-group records in the Delaware area. He will talk about fitness, and his six-decades-long athletic career, during the luncheon. More information on the luncheon is available on the road race website, www.manchesterroadrace.com.
