Arts center receives work initiative grant

VERNON - The Vernon Community Arts Center (VCAC) has received a Creation of New Work Initiative Grant from the Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation. This grant will support a new body of work by Coventry artist Barbara Hocker and result in an exhibition at the VCAC during the summer of 2014. The Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation Creation of New Work Initiative fosters creativity in the Greater Hartford area by supporting local artists in the creation of new work and encourages collaborations between artists and arts organizations that benefit the artist, the organization and the community Hocker lives in Coventry, and maintains a studio in the Arbor Arts Center in Hartford. Her work inhabits the expanded field between photography, printmaking and digital media. She is working on a series of large-scale multi-media sculptures and a collection of handmade books for this project. She is a 2008 recipient of the Greater Hartford Arts Council New Boston Fund Individual Artist Fellowship. The Vernon Community Arts Center is a non-profit organization committed to enriching lives and enhancing economic development by bringing the arts to the diverse communities east-of-the-river through education, events, exhibits, and performances.
