REGION- On Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in Leamy Concert Hall, the Coast Guard Band presents its annual holiday concerts celebrating the joy and musical traditions of the season. Assistant director, Chief Warrant Officer Richard E. Wyman leads an upbeat, family friendly matinee performance, followed by a more traditional evening program filled with your favorite carols and other holiday offerings conducted by Director, Lieutenant Commander Adam Williamson. The audience is treated to a musical world tour with the delightful afternoon program featuring spirited music from Russia, Africa, Mexico and the United States. An evening program of popular carols and songs of the season provides a time of reflection and celebration. Morton Gould’s arrangement of the classic, “Adeste Fidelis,” is followed by a trio of carols from around the globe sung by vocalist, Musician First Class Megan Weikleenget and arranged by Musician First Class Sean Nelson. No holiday concert would be complete without a performance of Tchaikovsky’s famous “Nutcracker Suite,” in addition to others. The concert concludes with plenty of audience participation during a traditional Holiday Sing-Along. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. Leamy Concert Hall is located at 15 Mohegan Avenue, New London, and is handicap-accessible. Due to security restrictions, all visitors to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy must present valid state-issued photo ID.
