Wreaths Across America

Putnam - posted Dec, 09 2013

PUTNAM- Wreaths Across America Day will occur on Saturday, Dec.14, and once again American Legion Post 13 and the Putnam Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1523 will honor the fallen by participating in a wreath laying ceremony.   Join American Legion Post 13 and VFW Post 1523 to salute the fallen and to participate in wreath-laying ceremonies at veteran’s memorials, monuments and community cemeteries.  More than 450 towns across the country will do the same.   Post 13 will begin at Veterans Memorial Park in Putnam where a short ceremony, along with a moment of silence, will be observed to thank those who have served, those who have given all, and those who celebrate this holiday season knowing that a loved one is serving in harm’s way.   Joining the veteran’s organizations once again this year will be Town Administrator Doug Cutler, who continues to facilitate this annual event, along with other representatives from the community. Recently sworn-in mayor Anthony Falzarano will also be present and is looking forward to the opportunity to honor and thank those who can no longer serve as well as those who continue to do so.   Following the noon ceremony, Post 13 will visit nearly a dozen other Putnam locations including the Bridge Street Bridge, the bridge over the Little River at Route 44, St. Mary's Cemetery, the Providence Street Bridge, the Medal of Honor Bridge, the Civil War Monument, Grove Street Cemetery, Aspinock Cemetery, Putnam Heights Cemetery and Munyan Cemetery. Those attending the Dec. 14 ceremonies are encouraged to bring wreaths for their own personal dedication.   For more information, please visit: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org
