Help Connecticut fight epidermolysis bullosa
Region - posted Dec, 10 2013
REGION - Jimmy Titus of Stafford is representing Connecticut at the eighth annual Power Showcase Home Run Derby, Jan. 2 through 5 at Marlins Park Miami, Fla. All proceeds go to Jonathon Gionfriddo, a 14-year-old resident of Stafford Springs. Gionfriddo suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) which is a group of diseases characterized by blister formation after minor trauma to the skin. Estimates indicate that as many as 100,000 Americans suffer from some form of EB. Wounds may cover up to 75 percent of the body. Imagine a diet of only liquids or soft foods because of blistering and scarring of the esophagus? Children with EB are often referred to as Butterfly Children because their skin is as fragile as butterfly's wings. Gionfriddo and Titus' photo will be shown on the Jumbotron at Marlins Park during Titus' at-bat. In addition, the announcer will mention an interesting tidbit about Gionfriddo, along with information about EB. All proceeds go toward the needs of Gionfriddo (Fight EB CT C/O Jonathon Gionfriddo.) If you'd like to support this cause, please send checks to Jimmy Titus, P.O. Box 307, Stafford, CT 06075. Donations can be made the following ways: as staight donation, per-foot of longest distance home run, ($10, $25, $50) $250 grand slam; dine with Titus at a later date; gold baseball home run if Titus hits the gold ball out, you multiply your pledge by 5.
