Carousel open during Winterfest

REGION - Winterfest Hartford is in full swing and the Bushnell Park Carousel is a large part of the festivities. Fun-seekers of all ages are invited to celebrate the joy and merriment of the holiday season at the 99-year-old wooden carousel every weekend through Dec. 29. Hours are Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A ride on the enchanting historic carousel is just $1 for adults and children (babies age 1 and younger ride for free), and hot cocoa and hot popcorn are always available for purchase. Special holiday events include visits with Sponge Bob on Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22; and both Spiderman and Hello Kitty on Saturday, Dec. 28 and Sunday, Dec. 29. The Carousel also is collecting new and gently used hats and gloves to help people in need. Winterfest Hartford is a free, public ice-skating rink under the canopy of historic Bushnell Park that is presented by the iQuilt partnership and the City of Hartford. The rink is open daily through Feb. 1, from noon to 8 p.m. Free skate rentals are available. The Bushnell Park Carousel also will be open for the First Night Hartford celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 2 p.m. to midnight. Admission will be $1 or free with First Night pass.
