Take a hike

EAST WINDSOR - The American Heritage River Commission will host the fourth annual New Year's Day hike on Jan. 1, at the Scantic River State Park at 1 p.m. Come explore the 2.5-mile loop around the park. What better way to start the new year? Meet at Scantic River State Park (end of Melrose Road at the river, Broad Brook; off Route 140). Hike steps off promptly at 1 p.m. There will be a collection box for pet and people food for delivery to the East Windsor Five-Corner Food Pantry. Proper winter footwear is required. Dress according to the weather. Dogs are welcome. Some parts of the trail include log bridge crossings and hilly terrain.
