Grant will preserve farmland

Stafford - posted Jan, 07 2014

STAFFORD- The Northern CT Land Trust (NCLT) has received a $45,000 grant from the Jessie B. Cox- Cox Family Fund at the Boston Foundation. This grant has been used to purchase a 20-acre picturesque pasture on Upper Road in Stafford. The prior owner of this farmland, Katherine Satkowski, agreed to sell the property at a large discount from the appraised value to ensure that it would never be developed and would remain as working land. The property had been purchased by her father-in-law in 1923 and has been farmed for three generations. The NCLT plans to name the property “The Satkowski Farm” in memory of Felix and Henry Satkowski and will erect a sign recognizing the contributions of the Cox Family Fund and the Satkowski family. The NCLT will lease the pasture to local farmers to keep it as working land. The NCLT is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to protecting open space and farmland in a seven town region in north central Connecticut. For more information, visit
