EAST HARTFORD - East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc, the East Hartford Chamber of Commerce and Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) invite area businesses to the East Hartford Summer Youth Employment Breakfast to be held on Feb. 20, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The event, which is sponsored by Pratt & Whitney, will feature speakers including CWP representatives, as well as employers and students who have participated in the program. CWP is the regional workforce investment board and administrator for the north central region, encompassing 37 Connecticut municipalities. CWP’s mission is to leverage public and private resources to produce skilled workers for a competitive regional economy. The purpose of the breakfast is to familiarize CWP’s youth program to employers who may be interested in hiring interns for the summer. The program, also known as SYELP (Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program) provides work and learning opportunities to the region’s youth during the summer to boost school retention, facilitate career competency attainment and prepare youth for unsubsidized employment and career paths. The program focuses on customer service, interpersonal communications, personal qualities, problem solving, decision making and financial literacy. The East Hartford Summer Youth Employment Breakfast will take place at the Hartford Canoe Club, 75 Riverside Drive, East Hartford. Please RSVP to East Hartford Chamber of Commerce President Timothy Coppage at email@example.com or to Youth Employer Engagement Specialist Richard Davis at firstname.lastname@example.org.
