NO. WINDHAM- One of Eastern Connecticut State University’s longest-running community fundraising events, “Bowlathon,” will occur Saturday, March 1, at Willi Bowl in North Windham. The fun-filled event will begin at 11 a.m.; there is still time to register a team or sponsor a Windham youth. Proceeds go to Eastern’s Community Youth Scholarship program, which has raised more than $100,000 since the event’s inception more than a decade ago. Teams composed of students, staff and faculty, as well as members of the local community will battle it out pin for pin, but the real winners are the students who receive the scholarships and opportunity to attend Eastern. The event is sponsored by the ECSU Foundation, Inc., as well as Charter Communications, Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Windham and Potter’s Oil Service. Each team consists of four bowlers—$30 per participant. There is also the option to sponsor a Windham youth to bowl by donating $30—an initiative of Eastern’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE). A $60 donation will register a Windham youth enrolled in the CCE’s afterschool program, Puentes Al Futuro (Bridges to the Future), as well as an Eastern student who will serve as that youth’s mentor. The CCE requests all sponsor donations to be submitted by Feb. 24. For teams, registration and donations must be turned in by Feb. 28 to Associate Director of Alumni Affair Ryan Rose—checks made payable to ECSU Foundation, Inc. Pledge sheets, team registration forms and business sponsorship forms are located on-line. Business-sponsored teams must enter as “Striker” level sponsors or higher.
