Local dairy farms serve up ice cream and a chance for fame
The Farmer’s Cow, local dairy farmers providing Connecticutproduced fresh milk, cream and other products, recently announced that 10 new ice cream flavors, chosen by survey participants, will be available by Memorial Day.
But the 10 fresh new flavors – vanilla, chocolate, chocolate chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, strawberry, cookies & cream, black raspberry chocolate chip, peanut butter cup, cherry vanilla and coffee – are missing something almost as important as their key ingredient . Robin Chesmer, managing partner with The Farmer’s Cow, is hoping that consumers will “get their creative juices flowing” and give the new flavors what they now need the most – a name.
“We’re looking for people’s ideas,” said Chesmer, “It’s a good opportunity to get your name up in lights.” Chesmer added that he thought it would be commendable if contributors suggested ideas that had some kind of connection to farming or to what local agriculture and sustainability mean to them.
Kristin O’Leary Orr, from Fort Hill Farms in Thompson, is especially looking forward to Memorial Day weekend, when a new visitor’s center at the farm will open. “People are just wanting something local and fun to do,” noted O’Leary Orr, who can’t wait to offer ice cream to children after they’ve spent a few hours on the farm.
Learn more and name your favorite flavor until midnight on Feb. 14 at www. thefarmerscow.com/icecream. One lucky entrant will receive a summer’s supply of ice cream.
So while you’re wishing it was hot enough out to enjoy a fresh bowl of locally produced ice cream, star thinking of what you’re going to name your favorite flavor!
