Continuing a tradition of nearly 15 years, the Tolland Public Library hosted Truck Day in its parking lot on Friday , June 27 . Parents and children came out to enjoy free ice cream and Popsicles and have the chance to climb aboard trucks of all shapes , sizes and colors .
Among the trucks represented were a cherry picker from Connecticut Light and Power , a trash collector from Willimantic Waste , a snowplow from Tolland Public Works Department , two fire trucks , a forestry truck and an ambulance from the Tolland Fire Department and a patrol car from the Connecticut State Police .
“ I hope that after people enjoy the trucks outside that they will come inside and enjoy the library and get a head start on their summer reading , ” said Ginny Brousseau , who had set up a display of books related to trucks and transportation in preparation of the event .
“ We’re here to tell why we are here and what we are about , ” said Steve Pasek , a firefighter and EMT with the Tolland Fire Department .
“ We show the kids all of the equipment that we have and let them try on our gear so that when we show up on a call , they are not afraid of us , ” he said .
