The weather has been so strange lately. One day we get snow and the next day its 50 degrees! That’s New England for you! Spring is right around the corner, I can feel it. I am looking forward to feeling the warm sun on my face. It’s a time for new beginnings and new buds to grow. Take this coming opportunity to make a change for the better and watch what blooms! I am excited for Spring, are you?

I have recently been teaching my 16-year-old son how to drive. I am trying to teach him right and make him observe speed limits, etc. However more often than not when he is driving the speed limit there is always someone tailgating ! There are so many rules these days for teen drivers and people are always complaining about them. It’s ironic that I am trying to teach my son the right way and he has an adult riding his rear end. Come on people, if you want today’s teens to be safe and drive correctly then lead by example!

In response to “STUPID:” Democrats now say they need to raise the gas price to $7 per gallon to save the planet from global warming. Climategate doesn’t matter to these people. They will just keep their blinders on and keep their earplugs in and ruin America anyway. It is now apparent it was never about saving the planet. I think pumping $7 a gallon gas will convert the liberal left to suddenly become conservatives, even “Better Off,” especially if it kicks in right before the November elections. In a capitalistic world, price is dictated by supply and demand. In a progressive/ Democrat world, price is dictated. In which world are we really better off ? I choose freedom.

I just want to say shame on all of you horrible people I see driving around with your kids in the car and a cigarette in your mouth! How dare you put those innocent children in a car and fill it with toxic/disease causing smoke! Who exactly do you think you are? I love the “They’re my kids, so it’s my choice” response to this question. So I guess when a parent beats their child that’s okay because it’s their child too, right? How this is not considered a form of child abuse is beyond me! Why is this not at least an offense that can be fined? Is there no one willing to stand up for these children? You people literally make my stomach turn!

In response to “GO SOLAR” : You are totally against nuclear power and you probably couldn’t even state one intelligent reason why. The Kleen Energy Power Plant is gas and oil fired, not a nuclear reactor. Although what happened in Middletown truly was a tragedy , you may want to review the specifics of the Chernobyl disaster before you compare the two accidents. Finally, concerning your statement about the sun being a “free” energy source, you should study some basic physics, specifically conservation of energy. Maybe then you’ll realize that no energy source is “free” .

In response to “BE THANKFUL” : Wow, that’s really great that you got that $400 tax credit with no strings attached . Has it ever occurred to you that someone else is paying for it? Of course not. Those billions Obama gave the state? I suppose you also think there were no strings attached there either. Obama hands out free money and that is all that matters. Obama doesn’t have any free money to hand out, he takes it from others. Should I be thankful he took $400 from me to give to you?

In regards to proposed tax increases, how about these ideas: a 0-percent tax increase, five furlough days required per year (starting at the top), employees to pay more for health care and new employees to manage their own retirement accounts. Private industry does these things and town leaders must find the courage to do the same. Lastly, let volunteers run the leaf vacuum truck in their neighborhoods. Take away the leaf truck and I’ll burn the leaves.

We all love holidays, but I think it is time to take down all the decorations, especially the fall ones. It’s almost Spring!

So global warming has been proven to be a fraud and Al Gore is nowhere to be found. This guy made millions on his stupid movie, forced us to use ethanol, and almost made us all change our lives based on a lie. This guy should be in jail for fraud. At the very least forced to testify in front of congress on where he got his “facts” for his crock of a movie. People were duped. He should be investigated . For those that still believe this stuff, you need to get a new life, the so called “climate change” is a lie... always has been.

In response to “LUNCH MONEY” : We give the school $100 a month to go into our sons lunch account. We trust our son and we know that he is not buying lunch for other kids. Why do you ask if we know that he is not abusing his account? We have a good open relationship with our son and he is not afraid to talk to us about anything. If he ever did buy lunch for someone it would be from goodness of his heart. That is how we raised our boy.

I’m very sorry that your family member /loved one died at the top of our hill, a few years ago. It is a nice remembrance to plant the flowers on this spot. But, please understand that after you have your memorial nights there, you should pick up the candles, beer bottles, etc. After a few days, they are broken, and just look like trash. Not a nice “memorial .”

In response to “GET OFF THE PHONE” : Is it that big of a deal if people talk on their phones in the supermarket ? It’s not your business if someone makes their list at home or wings it! Maybe the rest of their family is not home, or they forgot, or they just feel like talking on the phone while shopping ? Is it necessary to have complete silence when food shopping? Loosen up!
(reply)
In response to “GET OFF THE PHONE” : What difference does it make if people are talking on their cell phones or if they are talking to the person standing next to them? It is none of your business. People do not belong talking on a cell phone when driving; however, in the grocery store it is perfectly okay.

Those who gossip do it for one reason ... they think it gives them power. In the end, those who tell stories and pass them on with malicious intent have low self-esteem and are only talking poorly about someone else to make themselves feel good. Ultimately, those people will be the ones that end up alone. If they are talking about me, you can bet they will be talking about you!

In response to “PRIORITY” : The only thing this town really cares much about is “where” these graduations will be held. “Not” how many of the students will actually graduate. They are only into the “show.”

I agree we should ban cell phones! We should also ban unhealthy snacks, which are fattening up the youth of this country like so many Hansel’s and Gretel’s . We should also ban Drano – what if my cat drinks some by mistake? We should also ban hot tubs, because the other day I went in and the water was too hot. Don’t get me started on zeppelins , Wii remotes and Q-tips .

In response to “WHO’S RIGHT” : Nothing is right with the current administration . Inflation was ignored for Social Security. But now the college students are protesting over the proposed cutbacks for them. Looks like we went from the frying pan into the fire.

I know how to resolve all the controversy surrounding Obama’s health care bill, HR3200. As written, it currently exempts the “elites” – the president and Congress – from the bill they want for the rest of us. If this is such a great plan, then the president and all members of Congress should be the first participants for two years. They should be first in line for the exact same plan they have written (but mostly not read) for us. If it works out great for them, then maybe we could institute similar care for the rest of the country. But, guess what folks, this was proposed and no one was ready to sign it. This is an election year, and almost without exception they all have to be kicked to the curb. We don’t want their inferior plan for us, unless they first show us by example by being the first participants. This is not going to happen so let’s get rid of them all.

Last week our town’s finance director said there would be an increase in taxes of 2.9 percent, because of a 3 percent inflation . The federal government said inflation is 0 percent. This week I read that a proposed 9.2 percent increase is on the table. I guess we are the taxpayers with the golden egg.

In 2007, Barack Obama said, “Maybe you eke out a victory with 50-plus-one , but you can’t govern. You know, you get Air Force One and a lot of nice perks as president, but you can’t deliver on health. We’re not going to pass universal health care with a, with a 50-plusone strategy.” At last week’s health care summit, Joe Biden was overheard telling a participant, “It’s easy being vice president; you don’t have to do anything .” Last February, President Obama tapped Joe Biden to oversee the $787 billion stimulus package. Now Americans know why the $787 billion stimulus package isn’t working and the country is going downhill fast. In their own words, the president can’t govern and the vice president forgot he has a job to do.

Richard Blumenthal wants to replace Dodd as senator from Connecticut. But I’m wondering what good that would do. He couldn’t even run his office without spending a huge $5,100,205 on outside private law firms. Connecticut taxpayers could have put that money to good use. Why does he even have an office with attorneys in it if he’s just hiring from the outside. Is he saying that his people don’t have the knowledge? I mean, we’re talking $5 million on outside firms! No one has paid much attention to him other than his TV time, but that kind of excess is why we’re in trouble. I’m afraid he’ll just be another tax and spend.

In response to “PLEASE” : I was on my way to work one day and I saw a young person with a phone in his hands on top of his steering wheel racing down the street. I tooted my horn like something was wrong and the phone went flying out of his hands. Maybe if we all did this they might think twice about texting and driving. Something has to happen!

In response to “GO SOLAR!:” Comparing Chernobyl with Middletown is like comparing Hiroshima with the shoe bomber, a bully in elementary school to Hitler, or global deforestation with eating a salad. What is wrong with solar power? Give it a chance!
(reply)
In response to “Go Solar!”: Are you crazy? What if the sun were to accidentally explode? That would make Chernobyl look like another Three Mile Island, or at least like another disaster on the same scale as Chernobyl but with an easier-to-pronounce name. What would we do then? Clearly the only safe option is lunar power, but you don’t hear about that in the news. I wonder why Bush kept this hidden from the public ...
