So what does raising the minimum wage accomplish? It helps the entry-level worker for about one week. Then the effects of the government mandate take effect. An employer will hire less employees, an employer will have to raise the cost of his product to accommodate the government mandate. The entry-level worker will then find out he and the rest of us will actually have less buying power than they did before. Sounds like the minimum wage hike will cost more than it will help. My girlfriend just got new insurance. Her monthly premium is now about half of what she was paying before and she also has better coverage. So here is one story that differs from most others here. Maybe you really need to check it out first. I read where some claimed to be paying $800 per month. That seems to be much, much more than what I have been seeing. (reply)

I hope before the next election that people who consider themselves Democrats wake up and realize their party has been hijacked by progressives. They really aren’t the party for the “little guy” and women. Their policies hurt those people by promoting the culture of death, making everything more expensive and destroying job opportunities. President Obama spews a lot of rhetoric, but it’s all deception. (reply)

After 20 years, we finally purchased our own propane tank and are no longer required to purchase from just one company. Being able to purchase from any of the eight companies in the area is saving us lots of money. Instead of the $3.90 a gallon we used to pay, we were able to fill our new tank for only $2.09 a gallon. And we no longer have to pay exorbitant tank rental, delivery and billing fees. (reply)

Why is it I have a constitutional right to choose if my baby gets to live or die, as if I am some sort of god that decides which human beings are worthy of life and who should be killed; but yet, I don’t get to choose what kind of light bulb I want to use or what kind of health insurance I want to buy? How can I be trusted to make the proper choice of life or death for a human being when I can’t even be trusted to choose the correct light bulb? (reply)

In response to “CONGRESSMAN PROTECTING YOU?” Oh no, not those pesky make-believe “death panels” again! Guess what? There are no “death panels”; it was a lie, like most right-wing “scandals.” Oh, and the Affordable Care Act calls for the expansion of Medicare and Medicaid! (reply)

In response to “DO NOTHING?” Your insurance costs have gone up simply because you’re getting fatter and older. (reply)

In response to “OBAMACARE HURTS:” You are so right to be mad. Just remember, the people who are getting all the free stuff are the same ones who have all day to vote because they don’t work anyway. So on Election Day, all us working folks must be sure to get out and vote! (reply)

If your child is not doing well in high school, check their cell phone records. I did substitute teaching and was appalled at the kids that were on their phones the whole class. No work getting done. I guess there are plenty of other kids on to keep everyone in constant contact during the school day. Not much learning going on, huh? (reply)

In response to “OBAMACARE HURTS:” I know one person that is in the retail business and is only getting no more than 20 hours a week. How can she and all others pay their bills? (reply)

In response to “DO NOTHING?” No, I blame the last 30 years’ worth of slowly rising insurance premiums on the government preventing insurance companies from operating on the free market and refusing to even consider tort reform; two things that would drastically reduce costs. Those “do nothing Republicans” have been trying to reverse that for many years now, but the Democrats keep stopping them. This is the first time in history millions upon millions of people lost their insurance because of one law, and it is also the first time in history everyone’s insurance instantly became unaffordable overnight because of one law; and that one law is an all-Democrat law, so don’t even try to blame any of this on the Republicans! In response to “GOOD LAUGH:” I would like to point out the irony in the post you just made... you used “science” to debunk a claim of the date of the winter solstice, correct? Did you perhaps take into account that the Earth’s orbit may have a wobble, or is becoming more eccentric since the year 0, or whenever you claim your savior was born? Yet... I don’t see you using science to prove or disprove the existence, birth or death of your reason for celebrating Christmas. I find it quite intriguing that the religious use science when it’s convenient to their argument. I will not be saying either phrase because I think Christmas is a stupid notion; it is just serendipitous that it occurs so close to a solstice which was celebrated by pagans long before Constantine took the day back for Christians. To the person who dumped their mattress by my dumpster: I owe a small business and am trying to make a living. I now have to pay an extra fee to have your old and dirty mattress removed. Please call a garbage service next time you need a pick-up, or bring it to the dump yourself. (reply)

Now that we know the NSA is reading everyone’s emails, perhaps we should all start emailing the Constitution to each other; that way, the Obama administration will finally read it. (reply)

John Kennedy was our last great president. If he had been allowed to live, he would have taken the control of our money supply back from the federal reserve, kept us out of Vietnam and regained control of the CIA from elite business interests. No president has attempted to address the real issues of our country since. I guess when JFK was killed, the message was sent loud and clear. (reply)

If it’s morally wrong for me to run my neighbor’s life and steal their money, how can it be morally right when I vote for a politician to do the exact same thing to my neighbor with laws and taxes? How does a politician scribbling on a piece of paper or a person pulling a lever in a box alter reality and make an evil act good? In a true free society, legality would never trump morality and equality would apply to everyone. Especially with the ruling class we call politicians. (reply)

In response to “DO NOTHING?” Yes, your insurance goes up every year. But has it ever gone up 50 to 75 percent before? (reply)

In response to “WHERE IS AL GORE?” Al Gore is probably trying to find a cool place to live. The 10 hottest years on record have all occurred since 1998, according to rankings from four top U.S., British and Japanese climate research centers. Check it out! (reply)
